Child education experts at the Center for American Progress say the federal government is moving toward a “child learning” strategy that aims to provide a more “effective way to build resilience for all children” and that could make a difference in how schools work in the coming decades.
The Center for Education Policy and Education Research (CEPR) is partnering with the U.N. Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ESCO) on a new research project called Child Learning, which aims to build on existing research to identify the key components of successful child learning.
The research project aims to identify “the learning tools that work in schools today, as well as how we can use them to improve student learning across the board,” said Catherine D. Kinsman, co-director of CEPR’s Center for Children and Families.
“We’re looking for ways to incorporate the skills we learn from school into our everyday lives.
That’s how we build resilience, and that’s how you get a sense of what works and what doesn’t work,” Kinsmuller told Business Insider.
The new research is focused on “learning strategies that support children in their development and the ability to adapt to new environments,” and focuses on “the development of social skills, and how children develop in response to learning challenges,” according to the center’s website.
The project is the first of its kind, Kinswamm said.
The initiative was launched in May, after the U,S.
Department of Education, which administers the federal child education program, commissioned a report by the National Center for Learning Disabilities, which studies the development of learning skills and the learning environment.
That report found that children learn best in environments that “provide opportunities for diverse learning opportunities, including the environment in which they learn.”
The report also found that many of the learning challenges students encounter in schools are common for students who are in first grade, and said that children who are older have difficulty with a variety of different learning challenges.
Kinksman said she was pleased to see that a national effort like the CEPR initiative was looking to explore the research, which she called “groundbreaking.”
The new CEPR research project has been launched at the National Institutes of Health, she said.
“This is one of the few programs where we are collaborating with the NIH and other federal agencies to look at this and look at what can be done,” she said, noting that it’s not just the research that is being conducted at the NIH.
The center, founded in the 1960s, was the first nonprofit research organization to conduct extensive research on the effects of various educational programs and activities on children.
“The idea is to do a better job of providing the information that’s needed to make decisions about how we deliver education,” said Kinsmun.
She said the center is working with the National Academy of Sciences and the National Science Foundation to expand their research.
“What we are looking at is how we address the challenges in classrooms today and how we are going to improve their outcomes, as the next generation of American children and young adults.”
The center has received support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
The institute is the primary source of funding for the center.
The National Institutes for Health (NIH) also provided the initial grant for the CEPSY project.
In addition to Kinsboll and Kinswar, the CEPIR research project is supported by the U.,S.
National Science Council (NSC), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the Ulysses S. Grant and MacArthur Foundation, and by the Rockefeller Foundation.
Kipsman said the goal of the CEPPIR project is to “provid[e] more information about the learning strategies that are working in classrooms in the U: what’s working and what’s not.”
The CEPSy project is a partnership between the Center and NISC, and is being run by the NISC’s Center on Children and the Family.
The goal is to create a “toolkit for the next era of American learning,” Kipsmann said.
This project was also co-funded by the Center’s American Civil Liberties Union Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), and by ICAS, the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science.
The CEPPAR project was supported by NSF’s Education and Skills Innovation Program.
The University of Michigan is a founding member of the Center on Education Policy.
