A black-branded toy that teaches children how to navigate the world and is designed to make them more independent has sold for $3.7 million at a San Francisco auction.
The toy, which is called Black Children’s Educational Toy, or BCET, uses a black child’s eye as a lens.
It’s called a “black lens” because the color of the eye is more prominent in the black child than in the white lens used by white children, according to its creators.
The makers say it is “designed to allow parents to understand how the world works and teach them how to create their own world.”
The company is seeking $3 million in crowdfunding.
